‘Best Doner’ shawarma kebab shop and barbers planned for former South Shields clothing store

The developers have submitted an application to convert the former Leannes clothing store near Chichester into new retail units to the planning department of South Tyneside Council.

Plans for 172 Dean Road, which is in the council area of Westoe, include splitting the store into two premises to create two new commercial uses, a barber shop and a shawarma kebab shop.

As part of the work, a new cooking ventilation extraction system is proposed for hot food use.

A planning application submitted to local authority officials also provides further details of the development.

This includes plans to separate the premises using a plasterboard and timber wall as well as the creation of two separate entrance doors and metal roller shutters for ‘additional security’.

Elsewhere, the planning application confirms that the development would create five jobs, two full-time and three part-time.

The submitted plans show signage naming the two businesses as “5 Barber” and “Best Doner”.

Proposed hours of operation are also set for both businesses, with barbers aiming to open between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday.

The kebab shop’s opening hours, if approved, would be 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., seven days a week and on public holidays.

A decision on the plans will be taken by South Tyneside Council once the consultation period has ended.
