Georgino Wijnaldum leaves PSG on loan to Roma just one year after joining Liverpool

AS Roma have signed Dutch midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum from Paris Saint-Germain on loan with an option to buy at the end of the season, the Serie A club announced on Friday.

The former Liverpool midfielder leaves French champions PSG after scoring three goals in 38 appearances after signing a three-year contract in 2021.

“It’s a very good feeling to be a Roma player,” Wijnaldum, 31, said in a statement. “Everyone I spoke to gave me great feedback about the club and its fans.

“The club made it clear how much they wanted me in their efforts to get the deal done, which always gives a player a lot of confidence and belief.

“The reception from the fans, on social media and elsewhere, has also been fantastic. I promise to give my 100% and help the team achieve all our goals this season.”

Wijnaldum follows Paulo Dybala, Nemanja Matic, Zeki Celik and Mile Svilar in joining Roma at the end of the season.

He will wear the number 25 shirt of the Giallorossi.

Roma finished sixth in Serie A last season and won the Europa Conference League under manager Jose Mourinho. They kick off the new campaign with a trip to Salernitana on August 14.
