Haremlique Instanbul opens store in Bal Harbor, plans to expand clothing – WWD

After opening a location in Bal Harbor this spring, Haremlique Istanbul plans to expand its clothing offering and plans to unveil two boutiques next year.

A more formal opening for the 4,300 square foot Bal Harbor store is planned for this fall, according to Caroline Koç, who co-founded the company in 2007 with N. Banu Yentür. The eponymous brand offers items such as towels, woven Egyptian cotton sheets, duvets, limited edition fabrics and baby products.

Haremlique Istanbul is located on the third floor of the open-air mall. The Bal Harbor site also offers Haremlique à la Mer, a loungewear, beachwear and homeware sub-brand. Designed for travelers, the assortment includes kaftans, tunics, shirt dresses, sarongs and kimonos. There are other seaside sundries like hats, travel and beach bags, peshtemals, shoes, accessories, and beach towels.

Through the end of this year, Hedonique expects to generate $1.2 million in retail volume at the Bal Harbor store, located near the James Perse Home store. The Turkish company has about six stores worldwide and aims to open boutiques in New York and Paris next year, Koc said.

After selling kaftans “very well” through a small signature outpost in the Four Seasons Surf Club hotel near Surfside, the company decided that Bal Harbor would be a prime location to expand, build on its existing local business and introduce the brand to visitors from South America, she said.

About 20% of the Bal Harbor store’s floor space is home to Haremlique à la Mer designs. Florida shoppers will find two styles of caftans that are only offered in the United States. Kaftans and tunics cost between $250 and $500, jewelry between $250 and $1,000, clutches between $300 and $900, and beach bags between $300 and $450. The brand also offers cashmere dresses priced between $700 and $1,000.

Looking ahead, plans are underway to offer more vacation-appropriate clothing styles, including a wider assortment of bathrobes and jackets this winter. Retail prices for outerwear range from $750 to $2,000, with the higher end featuring elaborate embroidery. “What makes our brand different are the designs we make. Everything is done in-house. We have our own design team. We are very influenced by the rich history that comes from these lands,” Koç said. “There is a whole variety of different cultures that inspire us. It is the greatest strength we have. It shows in our designs.
