Sainsbury’s resumes currency exchange service for online and in-store shoppers

Sainsbury’s has announced the reopening of its online Travel Money service following the relaxation of some travel restrictions from Covid.

Customers can order currency for next working day home delivery across the UK, or visit travel desks in 226 Sainsbury’s stores ahead of the summer holidays.

Customers will once again be able to buy and sell a range of foreign currencies and transfer money abroad with Western Union at their local Sainsbury’s supermarket. The chain offers 0% commission and competitive rates on all foreign currencies, with better rates for Nectar customers.

The easy-to-use service allows customers to order currencies online and use an automatic currency converter that tells you the value of pounds sterling against other currencies.

The reopening comes as travel agencies saw a boom in holiday sales, after the UK and decentralized governments announced Britons could travel to multiple countries without self-quarantining upon their return.

Travel agencies described seeing the “best day” for sales in months.

Despite the optimism, if the vacation is canceled due to changing circumstances of the coronavirus, customers can return their travel money at the exchange rate purchased, if they keep their receipt.

Jason King, Director of Customer Relations for Sainsbury’s Bank, said: “We are delighted to welcome back travel money customers online and in our stores.

“Whether it’s buying currency for a vacation abroad, reselling any extras from your trip, or sending money to friends and family overseas with Western Union, we are open and ready to help, however you want to get your currency.

Strict hygiene procedures will be in place for online and in-store orders to ensure safe handling of cash, protecting both colleagues and customers.
