The Nintendo Switch OLED docking station will also be sold separately

While the main attraction of the Nintendo Switch OLED is its new display, that’s not the only improvement the console will offer when it releases. The system will be accompanied by a slightly redesigned Dock, which also includes a LAN port. Switch fans who rarely play the console in handheld mode will be interested to know that Nintendo plans to sell the new Dock separately. In a statement provided to Digital trends, Nintendo has confirmed that it will be offering the new Dock as a fully standalone product through the Nintendo online store. However, no price or release date for the standalone unit has been revealed.

“The white docking station and the black docking station will be sold separately (no HDMI cable, no AC adapter, not in packaging) on the Nintendo online store. It will not be retailed.” Nintendo told Digital Trends.

Nintendo sells the current version of the Dock in a similar fashion on their website, which is useful for those who might want one in multiple rooms around the house. The original model retails in store for $ 59.99 (it’s currently out of stock), but it’s unclear whether or not the OLED model will cost the same amount. Both old and new docks will work with either version of Switch hardware.

It will be interesting to see how the Nintendo Switch OLED performs when it releases later this year! The Nintendo Switch has been a huge success for Nintendo, and it’s not hard to imagine that a lot of people are buying the new model. The redesigned OLED display and Dock might not be enough to convince some to upgrade, but those who haven’t purchased a Switch yet are likely to be inclined to spend the extra $ 50. The system is released on the same day as Terror Metroid, which will likely turn out to be an expensive day for many Nintendo fans. Of course, some might decide to stick with buying a new Dock instead!

The Nintendo Switch OLED will be released on October 8.
